Frequently Asked Questions

Using StudyPoints on the web and in the browser extension.

Using the website

Do I need an account?

You can browse public decks without signing in. To create decks, save study progress, pair the browser extension, or manage private decks, sign in or create an account.

How do I create a flashcard deck?

Go to Create Deck, describe what you want to study, choose options such as card count and number of answer choices, and submit. AI generates multiple-choice questions. Generation may take a minute; refresh the deck page if it is still processing.

How do I study on the website?

Open any ready deck from Browse Decks. Answer each question by clicking a choice. Use Next card to continue. Your progress is saved when you are signed in.

What is the difference between public and private decks?

Public decks appear in the shared library for others to study. Private decks are visible only to you (and are required for some account types). You choose visibility when creating a deck.

What does “Did AI mess this question up?” do?

The red flag button lets you report a bad question (wrong answer key, unclear wording, outdated fact, and so on). Flags are reviewed on our side. You can flag from a deck study page or from extension quizzes.

Why does my study progress look wrong after I edit a deck?

Progress is tied to card order in the deck. If cards are added, removed, or reordered after you studied, summaries may no longer match perfectly. You can keep studying from where you left off on the deck page.

Browser extension basics

How do I install and sign in to the extension?

Install from the Chrome Web Store (Chrome or Edge). See the Browser Extension page for more detail. While you browse, the extension will show a sign-in prompt instead of a flashcard until you connect your account. Sign in on studypoints.io in the tab that opens — no separate pairing step.

Which decks appear in extension quizzes?

Only decks you explicitly enable. On Browse Decks, click the small extension icon on each deck card to include or exclude it. At least one deck must be enabled and ready (generated) for quizzes to run.

How are flashcards chosen?

The extension cycles through every card in your enabled decks before repeating any question. When you finish a full round, it shuffles and starts again. If multiple decks are enabled, cards from all of them are in the same rotation pool.

Pop-up vs extension icon badge — what is the difference?

Pop-up shows a flashcard overlay on the site you are browsing (hosted from studypoints.io when possible). Extension icon badge adds a badge on the toolbar icon instead; open the extension menu and choose Open flashcard tab when you are ready.

Extension settings

What does “Quizzes enabled” do?

When checked, the extension can deliver flashcards on a timer while you browse. Turn it off to pause all extension quizzes without uninstalling or signing out.

What is “Interval (minutes of active browsing)”?

After this many minutes of active browsing in an allowed tab, the extension may show the next quiz. Time counts when the tab is focused and you are interacting; it is not based on clock time alone if you are idle or on another tab.

How do allow and disallow lists work?

Enter one domain per line (for example youtube.com or mail.google.com). Subdomains match: youtube.com includes www.youtube.com.

Can I change settings from a quiz overlay?

On the in-page pop-up, use the gear icon to open quick settings or the extension menu. Saved settings sync to your account and apply on other devices after you sign in.

Why do I see “Could not establish connection” in the extension menu?

That usually means the extension background service was still waking up. Close and reopen the menu, or try again in a moment. If pop-up quizzes fail on a tab, refresh that page so the extension can inject its script, then try again.

Does the extension track every site I visit?

No. It checks the hostname of your active tab against your lists and tracks active time locally to schedule quizzes. See our Privacy Policy for details.
